The Origins.
Every Sacred Art piece starts in a passage, not on a moodboard. This is the whole catalogue, the text behind each one, and why it looks the way it does.
The passage comes first
An artwork is never drawn and then fitted with a verse. We start in the text, read the scene until we can see it, and only then draw. If the picture stops matching the passage, the picture changes.
One Scripture per piece
One verse, quoted the way it reads and referenced correctly, printed on the artwork itself. Never a stack of verses, never a slogan dressed up as one. Scripture is quoted from the NKJV as short attributed quotations.
Drawn heavy, on purpose
Void black lit by gold and blood, engraved linework, old-master weight. These are the oldest and most serious stories there are, and cheerful clip-art faith cannot carry them. Christ is the message, never decoration.
Where it goes on the garment
The artwork is the back print, large enough to be read across a room. The haloed lamb sits small and high on the chest. The inner neck tag carries the sword-cross monogram. You could preach the whole shirt from the back.

THE THRONE
08 WORKSDaniel sees thrones put in place and the Ancient of Days take His seat, His throne a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire. The oldest picture of authority in Scripture, and the one that settles who is actually in charge.
Moses asks God for a name to carry back to Egypt and is given one that is not a description but a fact: I AM WHO I AM. A hand reaching out of fire, because the name arrived out of a burning bush.
Heaven opens and a rider comes out on a white horse, called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. The gentleness and the war are the same person.
The scroll no one could open, and the Lamb who was slain declared worthy to take it. The throne is drawn as an arch because worship is a doorway, not a stage.
Isaiah sees the seraphim covering their faces and calling to one another. Said three times, because in Hebrew that is how you say the highest degree there is.
At the name of Jesus every knee will bow. The figures at the foot of the throne are not made to kneel; the picture is what happens when the truth is finally seen plainly.
A child is born, a Son is given, and the government rests on His shoulder. The dove carries a crown because the peace and the reign are one title.
Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life. Drawn as a crown of thorns turning into a crown of gold, because that is the exchange.
THE CROSS
07 WORKSThe crowd going ahead of Him crying Hosanna in the highest. Days before the same city changed its mind, which is why the figure is carved in stone and lifting a cross.
Pilate brings Him out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe and says: behold the man. Meant as a dismissal. It became the truest sentence he ever said.
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live. Paul is not describing a feeling. He is describing a death that has already happened.
John sees Him coming and says: behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The lamb stands on a skull because of what it walked over.
As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you proclaim the Lord and His death till He comes. The cup is held by two hands because it was always meant to be passed.
He is not here, He is risen, as He said. The whole faith rests on a sentence spoken at an empty grave.
O Death, where is your sting. A taunt aimed at a grave, written by a man who expected to die and was not worried about it.
THE FIRE
09 WORKSElijah soaks the altar until it runs with water, then asks God to answer. The fire of the Lord fell and consumed everything, even the stones and the dust.
Three men are thrown into a furnace and the king counts four walking around unbound. You are rarely taken out of the fire. You are met in it.
Struck down, but not destroyed. The figure is pierced and still looking up, because the verse never claims you come out unmarked.
Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war. The training is the mercy, not the absence of the battle.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life. A gauntlet closed around a rosary: the fight is real and it is prayed.
You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts. The size difference in the picture is the whole point.
Daniel in the den, and Paul writing that in all these things we are more than conquerors. Two texts, one posture: the lions are real and he is sitting down.
Away with you, Satan. Christ answers the wilderness temptation with Scripture and nothing else, which is why the figure in red is standing and the other is bowed.
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. Said at the Red Sea with an army closing in. The sword is drawn by someone else.
THE WELL
07 WORKSOut of his heart will flow rivers of living water. Cupped hands, because you cannot hold this and keep it at the same time.
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings. The last promise in the Old Testament before four hundred years of silence.
Be still, and know that I am God. A hand coming up out of deep water, because the verse is spoken over chaos, not over calm.
Jacob wrestles until daybreak and says: I will not let You go unless You bless me. He walked with a limp afterwards and kept the blessing.
I am the way, the truth, and the life. A single lit doorway at the end of a dark nave, because the verse narrows rather than widens.
While he was still a great way off his father saw him and ran. The father runs. That is the detail the whole parable turns on.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Written about a body being knitted together in secret, long before anyone could see it.
The Marks
The Monogram
A blackletter O with a sword through it, the blade forming the cross. Cut into the inner neck tag of every garment. Romans 13:12, put on the armour of light.
The Lamb
A woolly bone-coloured lamb under a gold halo, small and high on the chest. Not a mascot. John 1:29, behold the Lamb of God.
The Line
Faith With A Spine. Printed on the neck tag under the monogram, next to Sydney, because that is where every one of these was drawn.
